Happy June!
It's hard to believe June is here! We are having so much fun preparing for our Reader's Theatre performances, learning about shapes, playing awesome math games and showing our skills at reading and writing! It is so encouraging to see the progress throughout grade one, and so exciting to see these students get ready to move into grade two!
Feel free to check the calendar dates for the upcoming events (campout week, sports day and other end of year fun!)
The special helper dates are also up on the website and came home in a notice.
Please return that green notice with your choice of item that you will provide for our camp out lunch!
Thanks for your continued support.

May.
In case you haven't seen, the special helper schedule is up on the website - take a look to see which day your child is special helper so that they can bring in some sharing :)
This Thursday there is an entrepreneur show that some of the intermediate students are putting on in the gym. These students have chosen something to create and sell, and we will go through as their customers. Take a look at the newsletter for more information! Should you decide to send any money with your child to purchase something from this event, please put it in a ziploc bag with their name on it so that we won't lose it at school. Thank you :)

An update from Div. 20
It is hard to believe that we have entered May! We have enjoyed the sunny weather this week and have enjoyed learning about making maps, and the new concept of subtraction!
The Kick off assembly for Jump Rope for Heart is today - your child will be coming home with an envelope that you can use to collect pledges to raise money for them on the Jump Day (May 15/16).
Please encourage your child to bring their agenda to school - as we are working a lot on writing, this is a great tool for them to practice their writing and printing.
For NEXT Wednesday, could you please send along a toy car for your child to use for a science activity - if your child does not have one from home we have plenty of extras that they could use from the classroom. Thank you!

Spring is Here!
We hope you had a great Easter break, and were able to enjoy great food and company!
We are in full swing, in division 20. We are excited about all of the reading and writing we are doing, and we have been learning a lot of great math games to practice some basic math skills!
We are watching some vegetables grow in our classroom, thanks to Miss. R for giving the students an opportunity to plant and observe the vegetables.
Our km club has been a success - we have been running a km everyday, as a class, and we have been encouraging students to challenge themselves by trying to beat their previous times! They seem to really enjoy this, and it has been a great way to get outside on some of these sunny days!
We had a Robert Munsch performance this week, some intermediate students along with a teacher performed a few of his books through drama, it was excellent and the students really enjoyed it!
Tomorrow we will be going through the fire house which comes to school, and the students tend to really enjoy!
Ordering hot lunch will all be done online now - so check your e mails for details from the school about how and where to order for the remainder of the hot lunches.
You can check out the calendar for some updated dates!

March Break!
We have had a great lego week, and have enjoyed all of the sunshine this week! Skating has come to an end and we have seen some incredible progress in the students ability to skate.
The calendar and special helper list has been updated, so you can take a look for what will be happening after the break!
Have a restful and fun break with your family - see you in two weeks!

Student Led Conferences!
It was so great to see the students bring their families into our classroom and share some of what we've been doing in class. Thank you for joining them in this, and showing enthusiasm for their work!
We have two more days of skating - this Friday and next! Thank you for all of your cooperation with the details of these trips!
Next week we will be having 'lego week'. This just means that we will be doing most of our learning around the theme of lego! Be sure to ask your child about the fun activities that we do!
Another reminder - next week there is early dismissal on Wednesday AND Thursday, at 1:45.

Pink Shirt Day.
Just a reminder that tomorrow we are having pink shirt day at school. This is a day where students and staff can wear pink shirts to symbolize that they will not tolerate bullying. We encourage your child to come dressed in pink (or wear anything pink) to symbolize this day!
The dates and times for student-led conferences were sent home today! Take a look in your child's agenda for your specific time. If you have any questions regarding this, don't hesitate to e mail us! We look forward to seeing you there, as your child takes the time to show you some of the learning they have been doing!
Skating is this Friday at 10:15!
Take a look at the calendar of events and special helper list for the updates for March! Look for the March activity calendar coming home with your child this week!

Happy February!
It is hard to believe that it is February already! Does time ever fly. We had our first skating day on Friday, it was a great success! Thank you for all your help in sending your kids prepared, helping tie up laces and cheering them on as they skate! They had a great time, even with the many challenges that new skaters face, and seem to be looking forward to the upcoming weeks.
We are still looking for some drivers for the upcoming weeks, so take a look at the form on the window of our classroom and let us know if you can help out in any way!
This is what the home reading volunteer schedule will look like for February - if you are interested in volunteering for March feel free to let us know!
Mondays - Jun's mom
Tuesdays - Ryan's mom
Wednesdays - Kale's mom
Thursdays - Ivy's mom
Fridays - Kendra's mom
Please send in a 2L milk/juice container with your child before Feb. 7. We will have some extras if you are unable to send one in!
Information about upcoming student-led conferences will be coming home this week - keep your eyes out for that!
Thank you for your continued support - as always, contact us with any questions or concerns!

Choosing Good Fit Books!
We have been busy in grade one learning how to choose good fit books! We have been encouraging our students to choose a book that interests them, where they can read the words and that they understand. We have had a lot of fun sharing our 'good fit' books with one another through buddy reading and reading out loud to the class!
A few reminders:
- An e mail was sent home asking that you send a milk carton (preferably 2L) with your child to school for a craft project before Feb. 7
- There has been some confusion with the home reading volunteers in the morning. For the month of February this is what I understand to be the schedule:
Mondays - Dora's mom
Tuesdays - Ryan's mom
Wednesdays - Erica's mom
Thursdays - Ivy's mom
Fridays - Kendra's mom
If any changes need to be made, or if you are interested in coming in either consistently or for a day or two every so often please contact me and I will fit that into our schedule! Thank you!

A Few Reminders!
Just a few reminders for the week. Scholastic book orders are due this Thursday January 23. Permission forms for skating are due this Friday January 24 (hopefully all of confusion has been sorted out!!). We are still looking for some drivers for skating, if you are free and willing to drive for any of the skating days you may take a look at the schedule up in our window to see where the needs are! You can take a look at the 'Calendar of Events' to confirm skating dates and any other upcoming events!
Skating!
You should have received a permission form for our upcoming skating days! We are very excited as this is an excellent opportunity for your child to improve their skating skills, and to have a good time as a class! There was one error on the skating permission form - all of the dates are FRIDAYS! (Jan. 31, Feb. 7, Feb. 14, Feb. 28, Mar. 7 and Mar. 14). So you may put those dates in your calendar, and could you please return the skating permission forms at your earliest convenience!
If you did not receive a form, or if you have further questions please feel free to e mail! Thanks!

Welcome Back!
We are so happy to see all of our grade one students again! It has been fun to hear all about the things your families did over the Christmas holidays! We hope you had a restful and fun time! We are getting right back into the routines of our classroom, and would like to share some of our focuses for the upcoming few weeks. We have started a small unit on penguins, so be sure to ask your child about something they may have learned! In math we will be working on numbers that are '1 more, 1 less, 2 more, 2 less'. We are also encouraging our students to do some meaningful writing. This is something they can be practicing at home - making lists, writing cards, making stories etc. Feel free to send in any writing they do at home to share with us at school!
Keep your eyes out for some information later this week on our skating program that is coming up. As always, feel free to e mail us with any questions!
